Questions about Reliability/Usefullness in Modern
Are there a lot of questions (for assessment tasks or HSC) about reliability or usefullness (similar to the Stolen Generation assignment)?

Modern --> A lot of work on wars, Lots of politics, Large topic areas, You are expected to remember the main events and the time period it occurred in ,You basically need to analyse events, as in to what extent was the policy successful

and yes, since modern has many more sources you need to do the step by step process when dealing with them
so modern is harder because u need to analyse sources and also examine reliability of policies/governments
ancient can be harder for those who don't like memorising chunks of info, but otherwise, less analysis

Why not:
THE PRELIMINARY COURSE consists of the following components:

* Studies of Ancient Societies: Thera/Santorini, Qin Dynasty and the Han Dynasty.
* Historical Investigation
In the Preliminary Course, students will develop the necessary skills, which will assist them in the HSC course, especially the skill of drawing conclusion from written and archaeological evidence.
HSC COURSE consists of the following components:
PART 1 Core Study: Cities of Vesuvivs - Pompeii and Herculaneum.
PART 2 Personalities and their times. A study of famous personalities e.g. Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Hatshepsut or Agrippina II (Agrippina II is studied at this school).

Re: Questions about Reliability/Usefullness in Modern
umm yeah, so basically what we are doing now in history (vietnam) is basically what we do in modern. Somehow, ancient seems more interesting.

You must remember that they've specifically structured our curriculum around AUSTRALIA'S involvement in Vietnam. It's made a lot more boring than it actually is by this.krishkay wrote:umm yeah, so basically what we are doing now in history (vietnam) is basically what we do in modern. And neither is actually harder - it just depends on what sort of mind you have. Ancient requires more of an imagination, if you will, as you have to fill in the gaps in history with things you can draw from sources. Modern requires more of an analytical view on things, as you have a lot more sources, and a lot of different views on individual events. It requires assessment on the reliability of sources, like someone said earlier, but Ancient does as well. You think about the way that Persian wars were documented - one singular perspective - and that perspective needs to be assessed and scrutinised, because so much is staked by it.
