Modern History / Geo / Legal
I'm planning on doing 3u English, 3u Maths, 2u Eco and 2u chem and possibly M&M, meaning I have to do 2 more units. I'm really not sure which one I want to do, but I'm leaning towards Geo. Any suggestions?

They all sound pretty interesting =O
Choose what you're good at I suppose. I know you probably haven't done an awful lot of Legal stuff but just choose what you're good at. Also consider possible career aspirations and stuff.

Geo just because it seems like there may be enough demand this year.

Do you know which teachers are taking those subjects? I think the teacher can really make a difference.
Maybe you should have a closer look at what each subject has to offer and compare it with your other subjects to make sure that you've got a balance.
Make sure you like what you pick though, remember: 19000+ minutes...

Yeah, why don't we just put down what teachers we want on our form instead of what subjects we want to do? Yeah, that would be a brilliant idea!

Ext1 English, Ext1 Maths, Chemistry, Legal Studies. Modern History. That's mine

That's not really how I meant it. I just find that I do better when I have a teacher who I can understand. Not saying that the teacher is any better, their teaching method just suits me. I'm sure you've felt the same way before.
I'm considering Ext 1 English, Ext 1 Maths, Chem, Physics and Legal

Not particularly, I've found that it's the content of the course that's interested me than the teacher or their methods. Like ,hey, I hated history last year - but this year I've come to enjoy it. Same teacher, same method, different content.

Picking a subject based on the teacher is complete rubbish. Unless the teacher is god-terrible (like my brother's ext2 maths teacher back in his school), you should be picking based on the subject itself. Teachers only guide you, but all of the work is done by yourself.

Surprisingly, quite a few people are considering Geo and it has run in the past (although people dropped out before the end of the first semester). I've even toyed with the idea myself, but the year 12 syllabus looks more interesting compared to year 11 and I doubt I'd want to continue with it in year 12.
There's a lot of fieldwork and excursions involved if that's the kind of thing you like.

I agree. Different teaching styles suit different people. HOWEVER, they shouldn't really dictate subject selections, because you'll never really know what teacher you're going to get. Well, until year 11

yeah, unless you know for sure (as in there would only be one class running with a definite teacher ) choosing subjects depending on teachers wouldn;t really work.
for example there are 6 chem classes running this year. Might be the same in our year.

Hmm...yeah, legal seems to have more to do with my career path.
How about not doing Ext 1 english, and doing geo + legal (or modern)?

If you're thinking about legal, my brother (who is currently studying law at UNSW) said that legal barely covers the basics of Law, and that if you do or don't do it it wouldn't make a difference when it came to Uni.

I think there are more advantages in taking Modern History in terms of university entry and whatnot, given it gives you a better general knowledge base, and also a wide range of analytical skills. However, all of these subjects are good choices, so it just comes down to which you think will be more interesting and have more to do with your chosen career path (or lack thereof - you may want to take something in particular to widen your options).

No.
I'd much rather be a political scientist. Or a lawyer. Or a bunch of other things.
You can still vote for the libs

Much rather be a political scientist or lawyer? Wouldn't Legal be the logical choice then?
