I would say eco, there's more stuff I'm interested in. That said, it depends on what you like. Have you had a look at the syllabus?Bettyisonfire wrote:Which one is better ?
No...well, apart from the effects of advertising on consumer spending/saving.Bettyisonfire wrote:Do you still learn about marketing and advertising in Economics?

No one can really say which is better since no one has done business studies.
But I can say that we don't learn about marketing strategies and advertising in economics other than how it effects different sectors of the economy. i.e. consumers, firms, financial institutions, governments and the overseas sector.
In economics basically learn about the economic problem and it branches down from there. The economic problem is the concept that people have unlimited wants but there are only limited resources to satisfy those wants. So economics is the study on how society attempts to solve this problem by making choices. "Economics is a study of choices"
Economics is awesome from what I've experienced so far. It's probably my favourite class this year. And is not nearly as stressful as most people from accel. make it seem.

I say you're biaaaasssseeddd chris D=
Eco is a good subject, yes, but a major advantage that business has over it is that it opens up a lot more career paths, and it helps if you plan to start a small business or smthn. But if you just loooovee scaling, go eco, business scales quite badly in comparison.

How is he biased? He enjoys economics the most this year. It's fact.
Just wondering...how does business studies open more career paths?
Also, how do you know economics scales well?
Even if you love scaling, it isn't a great reason to choose a subject.

The best part about Economics is applying it to real life things or in casual conversations.

Errr... I don't use other textbooks so I have no idea. It's economics, 1 textbook will do.

- <3 morning class. Well I like having breakfast I guess. Normally I don't have enough time to digest my food properly.
- topic is very interesting
- teacher is win (Robinson -- I'm still not over Sathey's scissor throw....epic, just epic)
Re: Economics vs Business Studies.
Have you seen him? If anyone asks him whether they should do eco, he says yes and strongly recommends it. His enjoying it naturally leads to bias, not everyone is going to enjoy eco.
How does business open more career paths..? I know I read it somewhere in careers, but I can't exactly remember where =S Anyone care to back me up here? In any case, I'm very sure that this is the case. OH YEAH, it was in the lesson with those circle target thingies. =D
I never said eco scales well, I said business scales badly in comparison to eco. Learn to read =S

Scaling is based upon the group that takes the subject. If you encourage people not to take a subject because it scales bad, then you will end up getting a weaker group, and so it will be scaled "badly in comparison".
It is what you call a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I will again stress;
- do not choose a subject because of how you perceive it will be scaled
- do not choose a subject because your friends are doing it
- do not choose a subject because of who you think the teacher will be
- CHOOSE a subject because you have an interest in it and want to do it.

I'm struggling to keep up in economics myself. I really need to get my stuff together next term or I'm gonna suffer.

Who are you? (I just wanna know to see which economics class you are in...I don't think people in our class are struggling...perhaps we are too lax in studying)
Re: Economics vs Business Studies.
Aw I feel like I'm being shot down so bad here. D= I was just saying that eco generally scales better than business, this is helped by the fact that ruse doesn't offer legal or business. I myself am leaning towards eco (I BLAME YOU CHRIS), but I think business is still a good option regardless.

No subject really offers 'career paths', except for prerequisites, which you need to get into certain courses for uni. Employers really don't care about what subjects you did at high school.

Yeah chris that's true, but remember in careers how those circular target things said you need certain levels of study to do certain jobs? I'm sure there was more for business than eco. Argh now I'm tearing myself, I'm not sure which of eco legal and business I should do. =S

For some reason I always think khfreakau is Thai. I get the two of you mixed up quite often.
Re: Economics vs Business Studies.
