SDD & IPT
Can someone briefly compare the two subjects SDD and IPT?

Re: SDD & IPT
I'd think you of all people would know this;
IPT is basically IST level 2. Same stuff as we're doing now in IST, just on a different level.
SDD is programming with it's languages and stuff, and delves more into the 'hardcore side' of computing.
(I still don't see the point of this question liang, I'm sure you know the answer)

I'm pretty sure he knew where the syllabuses (spelling?) were. Kevin just wants a summarised breakdown of the two subjects.
Lenny pretty much banged the nail in.

Hahaha this is a common misconception. There is no 'hardcore side' of computing. Programming is simply the brains of software. IPT is a mixture of both hardware and software. Being a software guy, I would rather take SDD over IPT.
It is important that you actually LIKE programming if wish to take SDD. If your doing it just for the sake of computers, you will struggle in it.
To be honest, IST is a waste of time. The assignments we receive don't teach us anything and everything is self-taught through internet or books. Most of the assignments are pointless. They teach us about ethics and purpose of projects and in my opinion, not enough about actual computing studies itself. IST itself is pointless; we learn the generics and basics of computing which are basically self-explanatory and use software which are easily outranked by others.

5000 lines of text seems more hardcore than a piece of hardware to most people.

Re: SDD & IPT
When you break programming down, it is actually REALLY simple. Those really long pieces of coding you see actually break down to simple basic functions.

Not me. I'd rather work with hardware than software. Software is a bit fiddly.
Also, programming is something that can be self taught pretty easily. If you're willing to be tested on it, do it.

Programming is actually surprisingly hard to be self-taught. It is difficult to compare yourself with others when you learn by yourself. Programming is broken into different branches and no-one is really better than others. It's just which people know which code applicable for the project.

And also out of interest, what kind of aspects of programming will be studied. I'm not at all interested at that DOM stuff but if it's java and C++ I might actually consider doing...

Both C++ and Java are "studied". Also Visual Basic which I find horrid.

Re: SDD & IPT
haha Ben we're doing Basic in Term 4 this year in IST D=
If I could have taken another subject, I'd probably do SDD, but I think I have more important things to do than that.

Wow, for god's sake. First I tell Mr. Forsyth that I got 60% because I SUCK at computing, and then he has the nerve to rage at me for using a generator to make a quiz because HE wants a THREE QUESTION QUIZ? I mean ffs. Seriously, he NEVER told us to do a quiz.... wtf else was I meant to do?
I'm gonna fail term 4.

@ your comment Thai
I agree with you. Somethings in IST are just too demanding as well as in my opinion, stupid.
Mr. F seriously asks too much. He isn't marking the actual coding himself but the actual "looks" of the website. Seriously...

Re: SDD & IPT
I think we side tracked of the TS's original question.
Basically SDD is the programming of software.
And IPT is how to use the software and hardware to provide information systems for other people.

Did you actually read this thread? Lenny and Chris already answered the question in detail.
On another note IPT is stupid. Who needs to learn about ethical issues?
