Most schools have already implemeted an E-FORM system for subject selections. OUR SCHOOL HAS FINALLY CAUGHT UP WITH THE TIMES (for one little thing)khfreakau wrote:The biggest upside is no IST

Let me try and explain;
Step 1: You guys select from all the different subjects to give us some idea of what is popular in your grade and what is not.
Step 2: I enter all of your selections into my computer (thank goodness for barcoding), and then my computer and I crunch the numbers.
The computer comes up with suggestions, but being a computer it doesn't always get it right, so I tweek it a bit.
Step 3: We (Principal/Deputies/HT's)look at how many subjects we can afford to run, taking into account tings like available staff, the number of rooms we would need (remember there are another 5 years that have to be taught as well!!!) and attempt to maximise the number of students getting their choices.
Steps 2 & 3 sort of go backwards and forwards a bit, as we try to come up with the best solution.
Step 4: The subjects get placed into lines, some people are happy and unfortunately some are upset, but unfortunately the number of permutations when 180 people are choosing subjects is quite large, so someone will be disappointed.
Hope that gives you some idea.

Re: So there are no lines?
Its just a combination of the Timetable package we use at school (First class), a Filemaker database I wrote, an excel spreadsheet and the grey matter(because computers are not people, and there are some things that they just don't understand)

I guess that summarises it very nicely.
Re: So there are no lines?
What happens if you really want to do the subject but it clashes with other subjects?

Chances are you can't do it unless the same happens to others (which I doubt will).

Then it doesn't clash with other subjects, other subjects clash with it.
In other words, yuo choose the subject tha tyou really want to do. At some point you may have to make a decision between two subjects, again, coose the one that you really want to do.

Yeah Electronics didn't run in year 9 and 10, so I got to do food tech instead =D. In retrospect, that was probably a good thing.
